Liquid Soul returns to Garcia's on Friday at 8 pm, the long-running Chicago acid jazz juggernaut founded by the late sax firebrand Mars Williams. Horn-driven funk, hip-hop accents, and nimble rhythms are the recipe, with deep-pocket grooves built for a sweaty dance floor. DJ Jesse De La Pena sets the tone, a Chicago selector with crate-digging instincts that pair perfectly with the band's live-cooked beat science.
